Man City v Arsenal Premier League preview

Saturday 22nd November
Man City v Arsenal

Arsenal travel to Manchester coming off the back of a 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa last weekend, to play a City side who have picked up just one point in their last four games.

With big spending on strikers Robinho and Jo in the summer, only Chelsea have scored more goals than Manchester City so far this season, but only Blackburn, Stoke and West Brom have conceded more as pressure builds on manager Mark Hughes’ job as the richest club in the Premier League are currently lying 12th in the Premier League after high expectations at the beginning of the season. Richard Dunne and Gelson Fernandes return from their one match bans for the visit of Arsenal. Vincent Kompany made his return last weekend but Joe Hart picked up an injury that will keep him out for three to four weeks, the result of Tal Ben Haim’s short back pass last weekend that also gifted Hull the lead. Martin Petrov underwent knee surgery this week that is expected to keep him out for three or four months.

Arsenal lost for the second time at home this season, and only the third time at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League after Aston Villa looked good in their 2-0 victory. This result was further evidence of Arsenal’s inconsistency this season, having beaten Manchester United the game before. Almunia played 90 minutes last weekend and Adebayor made his return as a substitute. Emmanuel Eboue still has a knee injury, Eduardo is a month away from returning and Tomas Rosicky won’t be back until 2009, and Theo Walcott won’t be back until 2009 either after undergoing surgery on a dislocated shoulder earlier this week.

Arsenal won this fixture 3-1 and won 1-0 at home against a different Manchester City side last season.
