Weekend Football Tips 06.02.10

English Premier League
Lots of tight games expected in the Premier League today. One team I can see getting back to winning ways is Sunderland at home to Wigan. They're currently at 11/10.

On Sunday, Birmingham City are at a very good price to beat lowly Wolves. There's a little more value in them to win to nil.

English Championship
West Brom have turned their form around and will need a victory to keep up with Newcastle this weekend. Plymouth have improved under Paul Mariner but they are heading for defeat today.

Derby threw the form book out of the window when they beat Nottingham Forest last weekend. But they are poor away from home and despite injuries to Sheffield United, I'm backing the Blades this weekend.

English League One
Hartlepool are a team who let leads slip and Leeds are looking to return to the Championship. Leeds are at good odds today.

Huddersfield are at value in their home game with Carlisle today.

English League Two
Lincoln City are struggling at the bottom of the football league and with a few key injuries they'll be going down at Chesterfield today.

Accrington Stanley are good value at home to Morecambe. The home side are playing the better of the two teams and I'm surprise to see them odds-against.

Weekend Football Tips 30.01.10

English Premier League
West Ham have a tremendous home record against Blackburn, who are dreadful on their travels again this season. I'm expecting another home win for them today and at odds-against I will take my chances.

It's been hard to predict which Wigan side will turn up week after week. They're currently in a rut and a good performance has been beyond them. Everton are in form and are at a good price of 13/10 today.

Burnley may have a tremendous home record this season but they are on a bad run at the moment and face high-flying Chelsea. Brian Laws has yet to see his Burnley side score which makes Chelsea to win to nil a good value bet for this one.

English Championship
Cardiff coming off a 6-0 victory at Bristol midweek, while Doncaster who thrashed 4-1 at home by Middlesbrough. There's good odds on the Welsh side to win again this weekend.

I think Leicester are overrated. Newcastle's odds are too big to ignore in the evening kickoff.

English League One
Gillingham shouldn't be odds-against at home to Walsall, despite going through a poor patch. This is a game they can turn their form around. Walsall are on a bad run themselves.

English League Two
Aldershot are very good at home and today they face a Grimsby side who are drifting out of the football league.

Port Vale are on a good run and I cannot find a reason why their odds are so good at home to a struggling Hereford side.

Weekend Football Tips 16.01.10

English Premier League
Stoke City are a popular bet today and it's easy to see why with Liverpool's current problems. They are 11/4 to beat Liverpool today, or you could take Barrie's approach and take it safe with a double chance; Stoke win or draw at 8/11.

Manchester United come up against another debuting manager again today. This time it is Brian Laws in charge of a sinking Burnley ship. Manchester United thrashed Wigan at home recently, what's to stop them from doing the same against Burnley today? 1/6 to win is low odds but a dead cert. You can United at 3/1 to win this gameby 4 goals or more. Or how about Antonio Valencia to score anytime at 5/2 - he's scored 4 in his last 6 home games.

Carlos Tevez is a man in form. Can Everton stop him from scoring again? Tevez is 11/5 to score anytime today, while Manchester City are a nice 13/8 to win at Everton. I can also see a few goals in this game, so over 2.5 goals at evens is worth a shout.

Aston Villa are competing for the top 4, while West Ham are in the bottom 4. The home side are 4/7 ahead of tomorrow's game.

Arsenal are playing well of late and Bolton have just installed a manager. Arsene Wenger has said Cesc Fabregas is ready to play which surprises me why the odds are so good. Arsenal are 8/13 to beat Bolton.

English Championship
While Reading beat Liverpool in the cup, they're not playing well in the league. Expect a cup hangover today and for flying Nottingham Forest to beat them at 4/6.

English Football League One
Leeds are the safe bet in this division and are 7/10 today at Exeter.

Norwich City are in form and are a value bet at Colchester today, 17/10 to win.

Next Burnley Manager

With Owen Coyle set to move to Bolton Wanderers any day soon, Burnley are looking to find a replacement.  Paul Lambert is red hot favourite to join his 3rd different team already this season, having moved from Colchester United to Norwich City in August.  I can't see the job going to the next two favourites on the list; Paul Jewell and Brian Laws, so it's a case of back the favourite here.

Paul Lambert 1/1 Skybet
Paul Jewell 5/1 Paddy Power
Brian Laws 6/1 Skybet
Steve Davis 8/1 Skybet
Steve Coppell 12/1 Skybet
Mike Phelan 12/1 Paddy Power
Alan Curbishley 14/1 Skybet

Next Bolton Wanderers Manager

After the sacking of Gary Megson yesterday, Peter Reid and Paul Jewell have become the front runners for the job according to the bookmakers.  Reid hasn't managed in England for nearly 5 years, although became Stoke City's assistant manager back in September.  Jewell has found himself amongst the favourites for a few jobs despite the mess he caused at Derby County.  The up-and-coming Darren Ferguson is amongst the favourites, as well as the experienced Alan Curbishley.  Mark Hughes may hold out for a bigger job and Owen Coyle has said he wants to stay on at Burnley.  Here is a list of the favourites and selected candidates:

Peter Reid 7/2 Skybet
Paul Jewell 9/2 888sport
Darren Ferguson 7/1 Stan James
Alan Curbishley 10/1 Skybet
Mark Hughes 10/1 Boylesports
Owen Coyles 12/1 Boylesports
Sven Goran Eriksson 14/1 VC Bet
Gareth Southgate 20/1 Boylesports
Steve Coppell 22/1 Stan James
Nigel Pearson 25/1 Ladbrokes
Jim Gannon 25/1 Skybet

Weekend Football Tips 26.12.09

English Premier League
Birmingham are involved in a lot of low-scoring games.  An early kickoff with Chelsea today should continue the trend.  It looks like one of those games that 1 goal will be enough to win it.  7/10 for under 2.5 goals looks good, add to an accumulator if needbe.

Sunderland and Everton have defensive problems and this should allow both teams to put a few past each other. I feel confident in both Louis Saha and Darren Bent in particular in this match and this match looks good value for over 2.5 goals at 11/10.

Aston Villa stand out to me tomorrow at 9/2. They won here last season, are on top form and Arsenal are flattering to deceive anybody at the moment. If Fabregas doesn't return, I'm laying the Gunners.

English Championship

Newcastle at 8/11 against a Sheffield Wednesday team who are out of sorts at the moment looks great price. Hopefully the Toon Army have prepared well over Christmas and continue their fine form in this one. They are 21/10 -1.5 goals and 29/5 -2 goals with the Asian Handicap.

English Football League One
Leeds United are the safest bet in League One. They are 4/11 before kickoff but are 1/1 -1 with skybet.

Weekend Football Tips 19.12.09

English Premier League
I agree with our Premier League Tipster that Aston Villa are a good bet today to beat Stoke at 1/2.  Whether you want to add this to a double, treble, accumulator is up to you.  You can find these odds at bet365 where Villa are 11/8 to win to nil having kept 3 consecutive clean sheets.

Tottenham are scoring at will while they have problems at the back.  Blackburn's defence struggles to deal with pace and scored from a set piece midweek.  Tottenham at 13/10 with Totesport is a good price if they can outscore their opponents, while 19/20 for over 2.5 goals is a good selection too.

Most of West Ham's games have gone over recently, helped by their shocking defence.  Chelsea are capable of scoring at will and will be looking to bang a few in today to get back into form.  Over 2.5 goals is a must for this game.

English Championship
Queens Park Rangers form has dipped whilst Sheffield United are coming into theirs.  The R's have scored a few in their home games this season and even 4 at Pride Park, while they don't have a strong defence.  This should make for a high-scoring game today in the Championship and I'm taking over 2.5 goals at evens today.

English Football League One

Gillingham are at 4/7 with Skybet to beat struggling Stockport County at the Priestfield Stadium today.

Europa League Outright Odds

The opening knockout round of the Europa League was drawn today. With 8 teams dropping out of the Champions League to join the 24 qualifiers from the group stages there are some strong teams in this competition to make for an exciting knockout stage.

The bookmakers have Liverpool favourites because of their previous record in the Champions League. This year they look dreadful and I don't give them a chance of winning this tournament. Their odds are far too short to touch. The value is currently with reigning holders Shakhtar Donetsk, while many people are liking Benfica because of their performances over Everton in the group stage. None of the Spanish and German teams should be ignored either but I have to question how seriously Juventus and Liverpool will take this competition with pressure on them in their own domestic leagues. Here are the favourites amongst other selected teams I am not completely writing off with the best places to find the best odds:

Liverpool 13/2 Totesport
Valencia 12/1 Stan James
Juventus 14/1 VC Bet
Benfica 14/1 Bet365
Shakhtar Donetsk 14/1 Bet365
Roma 16/1 Stan James
Hamburg 16/1 Paddy Power
Werder Bremen 16/1 Bet365
Villarreal 25/1 Stan James
Marseille 22/1 Stan James
Everton 25/1 Skybet
Galatasaray 25/1 Bet365
Rubin Kazan 33/1 Ladbrokes
Atletico Madrid 33/1 Stan James
Wolfsburg 33/1 Boylesports
Athletico Bilbao 50/1 Skybet
Salzburg 661/1 Skybet
