There are only four matches taking place in the Premier League this weekend amid the rather bizarre winter break. On Sunday, high-flying Sheffield United host struggling Bournemouth in a match that I believe delivers the best value for punters.
Victory for the Blades would see them end the weekend in fifth place and two points behind Chelsea, with neither the Blues nor Tottenham Hotspur in action.
Meanwhile, Bournemouth are just two points above the relegation zone with 10 defeats in their last 14 league matches. Granted, they have won their last two. But these both came against fellow strugglers Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. The Cherries have been beaten by Norwich City, and thrashed by Watford (0-3), West Ham United (0-4) and Brighton & Hove Albion (0-2) since Boxing Day.
Chris Wilder has been producing tactical masterclasses with Sheffield United all season, just like he did in the Championship last time out to pull off their surprise promotion. Although top scorers Lys Mousset and John Fleck only have five goals each, they have plenty of goals around the park, such as Oliver McBurnie, Oliver Norwood, John Lundstram and George Baldock all chipping in.
The Yorkshire club also have one of the best defensive records in the Premier League, whilst Bournemouth had really been struggling for goals prior to their last two outings. Key man Callum Wilson is well out of form and Ryan Fraser is having an unproductive season.
This should all point to a home win and probably with another clean sheet. Yes, Sheffield United are odds on but they’re better priced than both Manchester City and Everton, who are both expected to win at home this weekend.
