Frank Lampard will be looking to do the double over Arsenal in his first season as Chelsea boss when his side host the Gunners at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.
However, the Blues are coming off a late loss at Newcastle United on Sunday, meaning they’ve won just one of their last three in the Premier League since their win at the Emirates.
Arsenal have gone on a little unbeaten run under Mikel Arteta since these two last met, beating Manchester United convincingly but then drawing with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United.
I like the energy that Arteta is bringing to the Gunners and I think their pressing game will cause Chelsea’s defence and maybe even goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga, issues. Their counter-attack is the strongest threat I see in this game.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s suspension is a huge loss to Arsenal in this one, but Gabriel Martinelli came into the starting lineup and scored at the weekend. I am a big fan of the young Brazilian, who offers pace and a real goalscoring threat. He’s scored a couple of headed goals this season too.
Although Chelsea did win at Arsenal less than four weeks ago, Arsenal’s new manager has worked with the team much longer now and they’re starting to take shape. Yes, their defence is still rubbish, but Newcastle managed to shut Lampard’s team out over the weekend. With the counter-attack game Arsenal have I think there’s great value in them midweek.
