Leicester City will look to start the new year with a further three points to increase their chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are already in prime position to do so and got back to winning ways on Saturday with a 2-1 win away to West Ham United, despite the manager making nine changes.
This means that the Foxes are well rested for their trip to St James’ Park on New Year’s Day when they face a Newcastle United side who have lost both games since Christmas Day – 4-1 at Manchester United and 2-1 at home by Everton
Jamie Vardy was one of the stars rested for the trip to the London Stadium last time out and the fresh striker should cause some real problems for Steve Bruce’s side in this one. James Maddison and former Newcastle player Ayoze Perez are other players to look out for.
Leicester sit second in the Premier League table for a reason – they’ve been excellent this season and I expect them to get off to 2020 with a win.
