Arguably the most-anticipated matchup of the 2018 World Cup quarter-finals sees favourites Brazil taking on a Belgium side loaded with talent.
Brazil came through their second round tie with Mexico with a third consecutive 2-0 victory in Russia, meaning Switzerland are the only nation to have put the ball in the back of their net.
Neymar got among the goals on Monday but I still don’t think the Paris Saint-Germain star as hit the heights this summer. In fact, he’s hit some lows with all the rolling around he’s been doing.
Brazil will be without Casemiro in midfield which could be a big blow given the playmakers Belgium have in the middle of their midfield. However, the South American nation do still have Fernandinho in there and he could be joined by Manchester United’s new signing Fred, should Tite want to play a bit more defensive.
We saw the best of Belgium after they fell 0-2 down against Japan on Monday night, coming back to win 3-2 in 90 minutes with substitutes Marouane Fellaini and Nacer Chadli getting among the goals.
The Red Devils are oozing talent and they are beginning to show their stuff. Whilst the Brazilian defence only has one goal against to their name I can really see Roberto Martinez’s side showing them up on Friday night. Marcelo and Fagner have played like wingers at times whilst both Thiago Silva and Miranda are 33 in the middle.
I firmly believe Belgium can progress from this match with Kevin De Bruyne opening up the Brazil defence for the likes of Romelu Lukaku, Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens to get among the goals. Defensively they are pretty solid too but I can’t be so confident on a clean sheet. Should be a thrilling match at least!
