Atletico Madrid will be looking for more silverware on Wednesday night when they take on Marseille in the Europa League final in Lyon.
Whilst some will say that Marseille have home advantage, it’s certainly not their home stadium and Atletico Madrid are competing at the top of a much more competitive league.
Indeed, Diego Simeone’s side are on course to finish second in La Liga, ahead of Champions League finalists and last season’s Champions League winners, Real Madrid.
Marseille could finish anywhere between second and fourth in Ligue but Paris Saint-Germain had the title wrapped up a long time ago. You could say even before a ball was kicked.
Rudi Garcia has done a very good job with this Marseille team and assembled some good players together – Dimitri Payet being the biggest star, but also Florian Thauvin is playing incredibly well this season. Lucas Ocampos and Morgan Sanson have contributed to several goals from midfield also.
However, I think Atletico Madrid will be too much for the French outfit. Diego Simeone’s side are excellent in defence whilst the likes of Antoine Griezmman, Saul, Koke and Diego Costa have the beating of the Marseille defence.
Given the big difference in the quality of the two leagues these sides are coming from and that Atletico Madrid have one of the top tacticians in the world in charge, I really love the Spanish side’s value on Wednesday night.
