The European football weekend starts on Friday night with matches from Spain, Germany, France and the English Championship all taking place.
West Brom host Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime in the opening Premier League game of the weekend which concludes on Sunday with Manchester City versus Liverpool before we go into an international break.
Here are our favourite picks from around Europe this weekend:
Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid
Barcelona squandered their lead at the top of La Liga last weekend with a shock 2-1 loss at struggling Deportivo La Coruna. Real Madrid took advantage later than evening with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Real Betis. It was anything but convincing from Zinedine Zidane’s side but I believe with a full week’s rest they’ll be back to their best this weekend.
Athletic Bilbao currently sit 7th in the table and picked up an important 2-0 win at Real Sociedad last weekend to give them a chance of qualifying for Europe next season. Their form is a bit hit-and-miss, which includes defeats to Valencia and Sevilla, and narrow wins over Sporting Gijon, Deportivo and Malaga.
Real Madrid have the talent available to pick up another three points over Athletic this season and I think they’re good value to do so.
Best bet: Real Madrid to win is 1.73 with Betfair
Torino vs Internazionale
Inter hammered Atalanta 7-1 last weekend and one of the in-form teams in Italy’s Serie A right now. They were 5-1 winners at Cagliari the weekend before and have won four of their last five. Champions League is very much on the horizon if they keep this form up.
Torino were convincingly beat 3-1 at Lazio last time out and face another tough test by way of the Italian giants. With the likes of Mauro Icardi, Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic Inter can certainly cause the hosts a lot of problems at the back.
Inter are flying high at the moment and cannot afford to drop many more points in their chase for Champions League football. Footballbets.tips are backing Inter to continue their excellent run this weekend and I think they’re right, so we should see them pick up three points on Saturday.
Best bet: Inter to win is 2.04 with Betfair
Middlesbrough vs Manchester United
Manchester United were made to work hard for their 1-0 UEFA Europa League victory at Old Trafford on Thursday, giving them little time to rest and prepare ahead of their trip to the Riverside midday on Sunday.
The hosts will be without a manager following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho’s former assistant Aitor Karanka. This should give the Red Devils a big advantage over the team that is already 19th in the league. Middlesbrough have scored only 19 goals so far this season.
Mourinho’s team are very much in good form chasing a top four finish this season and despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic being suspended for this one, they have enough firepower from the likes of Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata to pick up three points.
Best bet: Manchester United are 1.73 with Betfair
