Premier League Betting Tips August 28/29

The Premier League season has started with a bang in its opening two weekends. After 20 games, the 6-0 scoreline is the most common amongst results and Chelsea remain the only team with a 100% record. This weekend they come against one of three sides without a point so far, Stoke City. Here’s our preview of this weekend’s Premier League action:

Tottenham to win -1 4/6
A comfortable victory on Wednesday evening saw Tottenham Hotspur qualify for the Champions League for the first time in their history. Their achievement has seen them drawn with defending champions Inter Milan, along with Werder Bremen and FC Twente. A few first teamers may be rested this weekend, but Spurs have enough arsenal in their squad to beat a Wigan side who have looked nothing short of dire so far this season. Wigan won 3-0 at Hartlepool the evening before. A number of players who will be expecting to play this weekend participated in an attempt to get morale up following their start to their league campaign. Aaron Lennon and Jermain Defoe’s pace will cause Wigan endless problems, as they did in last season’s 9-1 mauling. Gareth Bale is in fine form too.

Manchester United to win -1 1/2
Sir Alex Ferguson will have got under his side’s skin after dropping 2 points last weekend. They cannot do the same this weekend and I do not expect it too against one of the poorest teams after two games. Wayne Rooney returns and will be looking to get his season started after failing to score against Newcastle on the opening game before missing their match at Fulham. Manchester United going forward will enjoy playing against this West Ham defence that has started the season woefully. Even in goal, Robert Green isn’t adding confidence to his defence and I would expect Manchester United to have several opportunities in this match. Dimitar Berbatov didn’t lead the line well last weekend and I would prefer to see Rooney partnered with either Javier Hernandez or Michael Owen in this game. Owen has a good record against the Hammers.

Liverpool to win -1 4/7
After a hard fought victory in Turkey on Thursday evening, Liverpool have been handed an easier homecoming. Facing one of the weakest sides in the Premier League this season, and with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres rested, Liverpool should be set for a comfortable victory. Despite a 1-0 victory last weekend, I am not keen on their defence, and especially not goalkeeper Scott Carson to keep too many more clean sheets this season. There have been question marks over Fernando Torres’ fitness and form already this season and this is a good opportunity to prove the doubters wrong. At least temporarily.

Manchester City to beat Sunderland 10/11
Manchester City performed well on Monday night when they thrashed Liverpool 3-0. Wanting to prove money has been well spent and not under perform as they did last season, Manchester City need to go to Sunderland on Sunday and pick up 3 points. The Stadium of Light isn’t the easiest ground to go too, but Sunderland have picked up just 1 point from their opening two games. A 1-0 loss at West Brom last weekend could have been more and a similar performance on Sunday will guarantee them a heavier defeat. Manchester City come into this game with a team loaded of individual talent, especially in attack. Sunderland’s defence has been vulnerable this season and the likes of Carlos Tevez should enjoy facing them.
